Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging modality that utilizes high frequency sound waved to obtain medical images of organs, tissues and blood flow within the body. You should wear comfortable clothing for your exam or you may be asked to wear a gown during the procedure. Most ultrasound exams are fast, painless, and use no ionizing radiation.
You will be asked to lie on an examination table, where a warm gel will be applied on the skin to the area to be examined. A hand held transducer will be used by the sonographer which will direct a stream of high-frequency sound waves into the body. These sound waves are instantly measured by the Ultrasound machine which calculates the information and displays images on a computer monitor as the exam is being done.
